Educational Staff Associates (ESAs – folks like, School Psychs, Nurses, PTs, OTs, SLPs, Counselors, Mental Health Specialists, and other non-classroom teacher types) are the most under-represented portion of the NTEA membership in terms of holding elected offices, as Building Representatives, and as elected Delegates to both the state (WEA-RA) and national (NEA-RA) annual Conventions; perhaps, more so, even than our members of color!
That said, I am inviting any and all ESA members of NTEA to consider nominating yourself or an ESA colleague (please ask that colleague first!) to be in the running to be an elected Delegate or Successor Delegate to the April 16-18, 2020 WEA Representative Assembly. RA is the annual convention where much of the legislative and business and operational direction of WEA, for the upcoming year, is determined. This is done through a democratic process of proposing, debating and ultimately voting on motions to make changes to the WEA Constitution, Bylaws, and/or Resolutions; and New Business Items – ideas around actions taken by WEA to improve the working conditions of WEA members and the learning conditions of students.
Even if you’ve never attended such an event, coming as a Successor Delegate gets you on the RA floor for the 2-and-a-half-days to listen and learn how parliamentary procedures ensure that a conversation among 900 WEA members is carried out productively and with civility.
Share your interest in being a Delegate today by completing the WEA-RA Delegate Nominee Form questions accessible on the NTEA Homepage. Look for the tab on the upper left side of the screen. Nominations end at the end of the NTEA Rep Council meeting on December 11, 2019.
